HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? (#27)

¿Lo puede creer usted? Es ya el martes. ¿Y eso significa tiempo para "COMO LE HACE LO QUIERE"? El martes. (Rough translation...Can you believe it? It is already Tuesday. And that means it is time for "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?" Tuesday.)

We all know now that Christmas is slowly working its way into the picture as the Thanksgiving holiday has passed. Most people begin to do their initial Christmas preparation - sprucing up their living space to incorporate some seasonal decorations. With this thought in mind, I pose the following question:
How do you like your Christmas tree - artificial or real?
Quite frankly, I have grown accustomed to artificial trees. Mind you, in my mind there is no substitute for the real 'Magoo.' It's just that my mom was highly allergic to them. She endured the allergy miseries for the first six years of my life but my parents finally had to move to an artificial tree. It solved the problem. As the years have gone by, I have found that the trees now are so life-like and more cost efficient that for me, it works. I tend to by some fresh greens, such as a wreath or garland to bring some of the fresh scent into the house. If you dress up the tree with all the right trimmings and touches, you'd be surprised at how often you can fool most people. Outside that, it's easy set up and easy take-down!

What works for you?

Hands down I prefer a real tree - and specifically a Douglass fir, but we have an artificial tree for two reasons. One is similar to yours: my wife is a bundle of asthma and allergies. An artificial tree has helped reduce one cause. We also have had our same tree for many years now. Somehow I think that it is better for our world that I am not cutting down a tree each year.

BTW, when we did get real trees, living in one of the top states for the growing of Christmas trees with lots of tree farms in the area, we used to go to one and cut our own. It was not only a fresher tree that lasted longer, but it was a fun family outing with my sons to pick out the tree and cut it down. That I have always missed.

Real... the smell... the fun of picking it out... the downside is the mess of needles I usuallly spend the next 6 months cleaning up...

Chris is allergic to the real trees, too, so Chris and I have always had an artifical tree. Growing up I had a real tree.

I get my fill of the tree scent whenever I go shopping. It seems the entry to every store in town is crowded with orphaned Christmas trees waiting for good homes.

When I put up a tree it has to be a real one... maybe there is room in the cottage for one this year...

We've always had artificial trees when I was growing up. People tease me because I have no plans to put a tree up in my apartment. I don't see any use for it. Everyone else has one and it's not like there is going to be any presents under it. I keep all that stuff at my parents house.

Artificial all the way! Not only is better for the environment than cutting down millions of trees each year, it is so much easier taking it out of the box and assembling the pieces rather than having to haul the full-size thing from your car to inside. And don't even get me started on vacuuming those damn needles all the time! For the smell I rely on Yankee Candle to supply that.

I prefer not to have one at all. But, someone in my home just LOVES Christmas. So, we have an artificial one that he put up on Saturday.

All I can say is, "yippie skippie" every time I see it.

Real one...for sure...but never have one anymore...Being gone so much it's just too hard to keep up (now don't go getting excited with that statement boys). So, we've got a huge fake one that looks remarkably real. But this year, we've bought a smaller fake one...the living room is just too small now with the grand piano in it!

Real trees, freshly cut or purchased in a snow fall.
However, after 40 years, we are going to have our first artificial christmas tree.
I'll write about it later this week; I am dubiuos of this "walk to the other side"!

I love the smell of the real tree, but at the same time, since I've become more preservation conscious, I feel that cutting down a tree for the sake of decorating is wrong. Yeah, yeah, yeah, call me a tree hugger!!!
I just decorated my tree this weekend--Martha Stewart's Christmas twilight colors!!
My artificial tree was rather expensive and looks real, so I feel like it's going to do.
Like you I grew up on real trees. My parents loved going out as a family to the tree lot and picking one out together. They still use a real tree in their living space. I'm going to preserve nature and continue using my artificial one.
I'm babbling--just shut me up now, cause I won't stop.

Never had a real tree as a kid. Tried one once -- but they are impossible to decorate (based on years of artificial trees). I love the smell of a real one, but I'm all about the fake ones for decorating purposes.

I love the real trees, but my house is so tiny and old and termite-ridden, that I install a plastic/fake one each year. (Plus, the clean-up is easier.)

Real baby! I am not "Tree Hugging" on this one, there is nothing like a real tree! I love mine!

Well real of course, I just never seem to get around to buying one. Year in and year out I haul that box from the basement.

Growing up my step-dad would have nothing else. I just love the scent which permeates the entire house.

I've never had a Christmas tree before :) But I like my Hannukah bush to be real - never fake :P

Tree farms are everywhere in Oregon so I don't feel bad about getting a real one. We cut one every year and usually take the neighbors along since I have a truck to haul theirs home too.

I have thought about artificial lately because I dread putting lights on the tree and they have artificial ones with lights already on them.

the real thing, the smell, just love it! But I hate taking the lights down.

I have to say, if it's not a real tree then what's the point? I don't mind the dead needles, I don't mind the mess (too much), give me a real tree with the smell and feel of it and it's Christmas. Otherwise, I'll take a pass.

Ummmm, Mr. Tony! This is like the fifth time someone has played a trick on me. I did not leave a comment on this blog entry until now! I'd like to know how someone does this???? At any rate, I like a fresh tree - and no one does a Hannukah Bush, anymore for God's sakes!!!!
