HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? (#28)

Guys...before I start my post I just have to vent. Why do people resort to robbing people of there identity or manipulating it to bemean one's credibility? I have to admit that I am "pissed" right now. Upset with the indivdual or individuals that are robbing me of a person I enjoy hearing from nearly daily, either through his own postings or through comments he leaves on other blogs. Heck, I do not even know if he'll continue any email correspondence or accept my calls. Admittedly, I find myself asking if I want to continue to blog. Time will tell.

Step down from the podium and shift gears into today's post.

Last week for my Tuesday
"HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?" post, I initiated a Christmas-themed question. In an effort to stay along those lines, I ask you the following question:

How do you like to wrap you gifts - in traditional Christmas wrapping paper, in decorative bags, or in some home-made packaging of sorts? (If the last item, do share your Christmas packaging idea with us.)

As of the last few Christmas, I have opted for traditional Christmas wrapping paper because it's quick, convenient, and has been the cheapest for me (given personal budget constraints). But I used to like to make the wrapping more personal. I used to do things like use the comics section of the Sunday newspaper - a friend got me started doing this. I used to also make personal decorated tins and boxes. And occasionally, there were the decorated baskets whether for prepared foods or for actual non-food items. It was fun trying to figure out what someone might be able to use in their space once the gift was removed or that they would be able to recycle in some other means.

Share with us what your thinking at the moment!

There are so many pretty wrapping papers out there now... I love the brightly colored Christmas papers - I just have a hell of a time with the bows. I HATE the bows in a bag, but i can't make a bow to save my ass...

As for Smiley, he will be back, don't worry... and you BETTER NOT be going anywhere...

I confess we usually go for cheap, but pretty wrapping paper, in part because it gets ripped off and trashed so quickly. It seems so wasted to spend a lot of money on it. (I know that is SO not gay - but you guys already have my card under review. lOL!) Nowadays, more and more I am tending to use the reusable bags, too.

When I was little, I used to spend my preciously small allowance to buy the best paper and "doo-dads" that Hallmark offered for my presents. My paternal grandmother would unwrap them so slowly and carefully. She would keep saying, the package was "too beautiful to unwrap". She had always been so poor. Even the paper was a treasure to her, and she would fold it carefully and keep it. Even now as I recall it, I well up.

I usually use regualar white paper, and work hard on the bows, lol, I even curl then ends. But sometimes I just put them in a bag. Depends on my Christmas spirit.

I always use store bought wrapping paper - with holly in the patterns.
Over the years people expect it/look for it "Oh there's the Holly so that must be from Mike"

Yikes what happened with Joshua? I need to do some checking around!

Spider is right, there are so many interesting and fun papers out there, I am not exactly "crafty creative" so likewise have never wrapped anything in something other than store bought paper.

I am however VERY selective in picking out the paper I do use :)

I like packages that are decorative!! It's fun to look at too. Sometimes however if someone has taken the time to decorate a present that is for me, I feel bad ripping it apart.

Yikes, I've never used anything but store-bought paper or re-usable gift bags. I feel so un-cultured.

As much as I'd like to think that Martha Stewart (minus the prison time) resides somewhere deep inside, I can't see me ever doing "make your own wrap." The gift bag thing has become so easy...I love it....but it's really not "wrapped," is it? The traditional wrap seems to be the winner. BUT, we're skipping gifts for both of our families for the second year in a row...and hope to continue it. Nobody needs a thing! Lots of WANTS, absolutely no NEEDS. So, I'll ship all of my 97,000 rolls of partially used paper to whoever wants it.

Oh , I wish I had the time and energy to wrap things up so pretty, but after saving to buy the right gift (that doesnt go over the budget) and then finding it, wrapping it... and actual putting the name of who it goes too... yes I had to unwrap things because I forgot to put the name on them.... I'm just happy to get it wrapped in whatever....

that said, If I have time I like to wrap presents in boxes and decorate it all pretty then wrap then in another box...

Wrapping paper, I always get comments on the one I pick out for the year. I also put them all in ribbon and bows. Not those cheap bows that pop off but nice tied bows.

Wrapping gifts is one of those "gay" genes I just never received. I like to think of myself as a creative person, and even was called "artsy" growing up- which I hated.

For some reason wrapping presents and ironing clothes are my weaknesses. I always try for the "gift" bag route, but those I wrap for, I apoligize profusely.

Jason - Too funny! I always say I don't have the 'gay decorator gene' but when it comes to ironing and gift wrapping I'm the poster queen.

Like Lemuel's Grandmother, my mother would take her time slowly slipping her fingernail under the tape to save the "beautiful paper' which she would use again.

I used to recycle my math homework as gift paper. I love the look of all those equations running random around the package. I also recycle the Sunday comics and other papers. The bows of wired ribbon are the focal point.

Of course simple cellophane seems to dominate our wrapping these days because it fit so nicely around the canned goods.

I'll let you know when I blog a pic of this.

Yeah, you better not go anywhere. I need to break to refocus, bud. I can't control the actions of crazy people, and I can't even control my own actions when I'm this overwrought - hence the break :) BTW I've been told that I wrap gifts better than no other. I go all out with ribbons, personalized cards, making sure you can't see the tape anywhere on the package and that the seams line up LOL

I've resorted to X mas or winter themed bags with colored tissue paper stemming from the bag, so as to obscure the contents. I find that for some people I will buy 3 or 4 small items, and instead of wrapping them individually, having them folded loosely in tissue in a good looking bag is always welcomed. Besides, when it comes to wrapping, I'm all thumbs!
